Reports in Italy suggest that Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira is unhappy and considering his future at the club after falling down the pecking order (via Sport Witness).
Arsenal’s midfield can expect some changes in the coming weeks after the incident with Granit Xhaka.
The former Monchengladbach man has played in almost every match for the Gunners this season but there are serious question marks over whether he will ever feature again.
Last season, Xhaka was deployed alongside Lucas Torreira but this term, the Uruguayan international has fallen behind Matteo Guendouzi in the pecking order.
When he has played, Torreira has been deployed in a more attacking or box-to-box role in Arsenal’s midfield.
It has baffled fans and now, it looks as if it has had an effect on Torreira personally.
Reports in Italy suggest that Torreira is ‘unsatisfied’ at Arsenal right now and ‘seems a little unhappy about his adventure in England.’
TuttoMercatoWeb claims that Torreira will be meeting with Arsenal officials in the coming weeks and if things don’t go well, he could be looking for an exit in January.
It’s such a baffling situation. Lucas Torreira stole the show for Arsenal at the start of last season when he was deployed in a defensive midfield role. Since then, his position changed and his performance levels have noticeably dropped. Perhaps the situation with Granit Xhaka will force Emery into playing Torreira in a deeper role and things will change. The Uruguay international is a truly exceptional player and is still so young, Arsenal would seriously regret selling him so soon.
