It has been claimed that Arsenal have failed in a bid to sign Marouane Fellaini as the midfielder closes on a new contract at Manchester United (via Yahoo).
It was a story which got Arsenal’s summer transfer window off to the worst possible start.
Many Gunners fans were hugely optimistic about the potential transfer business the club would do under new head coach Unai Emery but one of the first reported targets for Arsenal was Marouane Fellaini.
The Belgian midfielder was linked with a free transfer to Arsenal with his current Manchester United contract due to expire next week.
However, in the last few hours, it has been claimed that Fellaini is close to agreeing on a new deal to stay at United.
The reports also suggest that the player turned down an approach from Arsenal in order to stay at Old Trafford.

These reports need to be taken with a heavy amount of salt. They come from the player’s party and were reported to Manchester United journalist. It is in their interest to claim that the player turned down a move to the Gunners despite there being no clear evidence that Arsenal were seriously interested in the player.
