Reports in Italy suggest that Arsenal should announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund soon (via Sport Witness).
It feels like a long time since Arsenal were first linked with the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Greek centre-back was first touted as a potential signature several months ago with growing reports that the deal was all but completed.
We reported several weeks ago that the two clubs were reportedly waiting for the new financial year before announcing the deal and now, there has finally been some movement on the transfer.
Italian publication TMW has rubbished claims that Juventus were set to make a late bid for the player by claiming that Arsenal ‘should announce the purchase soon’.
Sokratis didn’t have the best of seasons at Dortmund last year but has a history with Arsenal players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Let’s hope that these reports in Italy are correct and that the deal is announced soon. It may be finished behind the scenes but Arsenal fans won’t believe it until Sokratis is pictured holding next season’s shirt.
