One of Arsenals most experienced players, Gael Clichy, has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the Emirates this summer. Liverpool have been the first club to show interest in the left fullback by offering £5m for his services, although Arsenal are keen to make a larger profit even though only a year remains on his contract.
According to talk sport Serie A club Roma, formerly linked with Clichy in 2008, have now shown they still have interest in Clichy by putting forward a more favourable bid of £8m to secure his services in Italy.
With Clichy refusing to sign a contract extension and being told that he can leave for the right price, surely this must be close to the figure Arsene is looking for. It must also be said that selling one of our most experienced defenders abroad rather than to a rival club in the premier league is the ideal outcome if he refuses to stay.
If Clichy does go, which he is expected to, this leaves some opportunity in defense. Talk has been about shifting Vermaelen out wide and using potential new signings, Cahill and Samba, in the middle. Or is Gibbs ready to step up to a starting position in the squad? What do you think should happen if the left back position becomes vacant?
