Over the years the Frenchman has been one of the loyal stars in the Arsenal team, often being considered the best right-back in the league.
However after suffering two leg breaks last season and returning in October, Sagna has been struggling to get back to his old self although seems to be improving slowly.
Sagna is quoted as saying by ESPN Soccernet:
I’ve not been at my best, I am going to be honest, so I am not very happy with myself.
This is a part where I need to get better and work more on my form. It has been a long time I’ve been working on my game as I didn’t really have a pre-season. I need to breathe a bit but, at a high level, you don’t have time to breathe because you have a game every few days and you have to keep going. I am looking forward to coming back to my best.
If you don’t focus 100% on the pitch, you miss something to push forward. You need somebody else to defend even better. When you are not at your best at this level, you feel it straight away on the pitch.

You need a bit of everything to turn it around. When you don’t perform as you used to, when you have been injured for so long, you need your confidence back and I was a bit low recently. I am a professional so I know this can happen, but not for too long because everyone is waiting for me to perform well.
Personally speaking, despite his inconsistencies he obviously needs some time to accustom his body to the rigors of the Premier League once again, particularly considering his lack of support in defence from Walcott.
There have been talks that perhaps his heart is no longer at Arsenal due to contract problems, although I feel last weekends performance against Sunderland firmly disproves this theory.
The Frenchman has been a loyal servant to Arsenal and I think deserves some time to try and improve his stamina and rediscover the form we all know he is capable of, only after that time it may well be time for Jenkinson to take the reigns at right-back.
What do you guys think? Does he deserve more time to prove himself or should Jenkinson be thrown back into the mix? Feel free to leave a comment below!
