According to Gremio’s executive director Rui Costa, Andre Santos is set to leave on a year-long loan away from Arsenal to the Brazilian outfit.
Since the arrival of Nacho Monreal from Malaga on deadline day, Santos’ hopes of playing have been reduced from slim to none with Gibbs and the new Spanish arrival Wenger’s viable options at left back.
The Brazilian has fallen out of favour heavily this season with dreadful performances against Manchester United, Brighton and Liverpool demonstrating his poor defensive skills. While positive on attack he leaves his fellow defenders stranded and helpless with his poor decision making and positioning.
According to the goal.com report, the 29-year-old is expected to arrive in Porto Alegre on Sunday morning to finalise the switch, with the Wenger able to cut the move short after six months if they desire and either sell him this summer or bring him back into the fold.
Rui Costa said:
[Santos] is coming from Arsenal to Gremio. Naturally everyone is talking a lot about [Hernan] Barcos, but Andre is a huge signing for us.

They are both players who want to be part of our project, who come to add a lot of depth to our squad and to win titles.
The deal will be perfect for both parties. Santos requires regular gametime and a move back to his homeland always looked like a positive outcome for the struggling, but skillful marauding left back. The most important thing for Gooners is to get him as far away from North London as possible before Bayern come to town.
Monreal will be ineligible to play, so fingers crossed that Vermaelen will return to action and able to fill in at left back.
