El Shaarawy, 22, has been heavily linked with a move abroad this summer, with the Emirates one of his potential destinations.
He enjoyed a fantastic breakout season in 2012/13 – scoring 19 goals and finishing as the club’s top scorer.
However, the Italian striker has struggled with injuries since then, scoring just two goals in the last two seasons.

He is currently recovering from a broken foot, which has kept him out since January.
“I am recovering well, later this week I should be removing the cast and then the rehabilitation process can begin,” he said.
“I am gratified by Arsenal’s interest, certainly, but my objective is to come back for Milan and do well at Milan.”
El Shaarawy looked like the next big thing at one point, and it’s a shame his career has been so hampered by injuries. It’s hard to see Arsene Wenger taking a risk on the youngster, and we can hardly afford any more injury-prone players.
We have plenty of attacking options at the moment, although we are arguably missing a top class centre forward to replace or, at the very least, back-up Olivier Giroud. El Shaarawy is certainly not at that level just yet, so it’s difficult to see where he would fit in at the club.
