It’s thought that a defensive midfielder is high on our list of priorities this summer, but our transfer targets seem to be slowly slipping away. Geoffrey Kondogbia recently made the move to Inter Milan (via the BBC), and although nothing is confirmed yet, Morgan Schneiderlin seems to be edging closer to a Manchester United move (via Sky Sports).
We are going to run out of targets if things keep going this way, and need to move quickly if we are to secure a new midfield destroyer.
Here are five options still available this summer:
6) Asier Illarramendi – Real Madrid
- ‘Break club record spend or look elsewhere’ Arsenal told
- Arsenal eye player Lionel Messi claimed to be ‘similar to Xavi’
- Arsenal urged to buy ‘January transfer window bargain’ for £6m
There have been a few flimsy stories linking us to Illarramendi (via the Metro), but nothing concrete as of yet.
That’s not to say he wouldn’t be a good signing though, as he looked a truly talented player during his Real Sociedad days prior to his move to the Santiago Bernabeu. He arguably isn’t as defensively astute as a few of the players we have been tipped to sign, but he is still a top quality midfielder.
It’s not hard to believe that he would be open to a move away from Madrid, as not only has he struggled to hold down a place, but the Metro suggests Rafa Benitez has marked him as surplus to requirements.
