Recent rumours have suggested that we are on the verge of completing a £21m move for Arturo Vidal (via The Telegraph), but is he really the player we should be looking to sign this summer?

Here are a few reasons both for and against signing the Chilean international:
6) For – Versatility
A defensive midfielder is what we really need at the moment, and for both Juventus and Chile he is deployed as more of a box-to-box midfielder. The 28-year-old is incredibly versatile however, and has played in a huge number of positions throughout his career.

He would be more than capable of adapting to a defensive midfield role, even if it’s not the one he is ideally suited to. This could potentially mean he is able to play both alongside and instead of Francis Coquelin, which would help us accommodate all our stars more easily.
5) Against – Not a dedicated DM
That said, he still isn’t a dedicated defensive midfielder, and that could be a problem. He could probably do a job in a holding role against the lesser teams, but that is not where he excels. If Francis Coquelin were to suffer an injury we may be left in the lurch, and Vidal might not be able to fill the void.
We have seen the importance of a player like Coquelin this past season, and we can’t afford to be left without one in 2015/16.
