Sky Sports pundits Thierry Henry and Jamie Redknapp have backed the Gunners to mount a title challenge this season, after Arsenal registered a comprehensive victory against Watford in the League (via Sky Sports). The Gunners took all three points at Vicarage Road, beating the Hornets courtesy of three second half goals.
Speaking after the game, Henry praised the performance of the players and their ability to deliver under the massive expectations focused on them. He went on to state that if the Gunners managed to retain their form, they were title contenders for the season.
“They are in the mix for me,” he said.
“Today was a massive response knowing everybody had won. Everybody was waiting to see if they were going to back up the win against United.
“Can they do it and maintain it for more than 15, maybe 20 games? That’s what we want to see. They have to play like that all the time and win games like that sometimes where for an hour they struggle and then come out on top.
“Everybody can dream. If you love Arsenal I think they can win the title this season.”

Meanwhile, fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp also thought that Arsenal were in with a chance, however he expressed his opinion that the team could do with a few reinforcements in January. Speaking to Saturday Night Football, he said, “Look at everybody else this season – everybody has had their struggles and Arsenal have more than enough.
“I also look to January and think they can bring in one or two players. The last window was a really strange one to say the least. They only got Petr Cech and not getting any outfield players, I thought at the time, was a huge mistake.
“If they go and win the league, you will say Arsene Wenger was right. I don’t think there’s a lot to fear.
“Arsenal have found some rhythm. They had a hard start to the season when they lost at home to West Ham and Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb, but at the moment they look as good as anybody, so why can’t they win the league?”
Redknapp brings up a valid point about January reinforcements. While the success of Theo Walcott and the resurgence of Olivier Giroud means that we do not have any striker problems for the time being, positions like the defensive midfield are in serious need of reinforcement. Francis Coquelin is still irreplaceable, and bringing in some cover for the young Frenchman will go a long way towards easing the tensions of the fans.
