Alex Song has revealed to French news outlet L’Equipe that he wanted a return to Arsenal in the summer as did former team mate Cesc Fabregas, but the club did not want the ex-Arsenal stars.
The Gunners sold both midfielders to Barcelona in the summers of 2011 and 2012 respectively and were on the market in the past window after failing to live up to the bill with the Catalan giants.
Fabregas made a controversial move to rivals Chelsea before Song secured a loan deal with today’s opponents West Ham United. Both ex-Gunners are in what could be considered their best form of their lives, yet the duo were eager for returns to their former stomping ground the Emirates Stadium – however Arsene Wenger opted against both.
I would have liked to come back, but they didn’t want me. That’s life. I’m not mad at them.
Cesc also wanted to come back to Arsenal, who did not want activate their buy-back clause. It was surprising. When I see what he is doing at Chelsea. He is even better than before!
It’s hard to deny the Gunners could have done with both the midfielders this season, Cesc especially. Even Song would be a preferred option to Flamini who has drawn plenty of criticism for his lack of consistency. The Frenchman’s hardly the player he was in 2007, while Arteta is aged and slowing down albeit a very good player on his day.
