Respected journalist Kike Marin has all but confirmed that we are set to sign FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez this summer, and the Spaniard is usually reliable with his information.

Marin took to Twitter to confirm the news, suggesting that Arsene Wenger had identified Martinez as a top target, and that Alberto Bueno’s arrival at Porto signaled an exit for their top scorer.
@Arsenal Alberto Bueno goes to Porto… and Jackson Martinez goes to #Arsenal? The reports are very good. Wenger decided…

We have been heavily linked with a move for Martinez recently (via the Daily Star), with Wenger allegedly willing to activate his £24.8m release clause.
The Colombian has proved himself a 30 goal a season striker in the Portuguese league, although the Premier League is obviously a completely different animal.

There are few questioning the fact that we need to sign a striker this summer, as we have looked a far weaker side when Olivier Giroud has been absent this season. Danny Welbeck put in a few good performances, but he is far from the standard we need leading our line. Theo Walcott was hugely impressive as the hat-trick hero in our demolition of West Bromwich Albion this past weekend, but it’s unclear whether he will see an extended run in that role.
It’s unclear whether Martinez is the player that can guide us to the title, but he is unquestionably a fantastic striker.
