Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has waxed lyrical on his midfield partner Francis Coquelin after the two produced another dominant display at the heart of our team against Stoke City, Goal reports.
Coquelin and Cazorla began their fruitful partnership more through luck than design after Arsene Wenger aimed to make the best use of the squad during a severe injury crisis.
Following our impressive win against Manchester City in January, Wenger’s first choice midfield pairing was unearthed and we haven’t looked back since.
Arsenal news & rumours
“He’s helped me a lot,” Cazorla was quoted as saying by Goal.
“He plays well, he defends well and I think he’s one of the best players in this position.
- Arsenal told ‘no less than £50m’ for top defensive transfer target
- Arsenal keen to sign 16th best ranked Premier League stopper
- Arsenal keeping tabs on €40m Italy star after ‘outstanding’ season
“We are lucky because he plays for Arsenal and I enjoy it a lot with him in this position.”
Coquelin continues to repay Wenger’s faith in him and while we all hoped that the boss would add another holding midfield player, his compatriot can do no wrong at the moment.
In terms of his ability to win the ball back, few do it better in the Premier League than Coquelin and it seems as though his performance levels will depend on his mentality and how he understands his role.
Ball retention isn’t his greatest quality and when Coquelin makes it his job to snatch the ball back and hand it to our creative forces, he’s indispensable.
