Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla says that he is very surprised at the amount of injuries Arsenal pick up, and that he’s never experienced anything like it on any other team. The Spaniard is a well travelled player, who has plied his trade at Real Oviedo, Villarreal and Malaga, but he says the continual injury problems at Arsenal are something new to him and that they have made the team weaker and less competitive.
Currently on international duty, Cazorla told El Confidencial
It’s something that surprises me. There are always mishaps, like Walcott, for example, or you twist an ankle, but the constancy of tears, to see people outside the team a long time, that makes us much weaker.
We don’t have all our players in the best possible condition and ultimately makes the team more vulnerable. We hoping that we can change this plague of injuries
.
Cazorla also urged his teammates to cut out the errors which have cost so many points this season. Four times this season, Arsenal have dropped points from winning positions, with the 2-1 loss to Swansea being the most recent example of an Arsenal collapse after they were leading the game 1-0.
We’re not in a good moment. If we want to fight for important things these are mistakes that we cannot commit.
It’s happened to us several times already and we just can’t keep doing that.
Cazorla himself has not been in the best of form this season, but with Ozil and Wilshere both sidelined, he has gotten a lengthy run in the side. However, Arsenal’s injury problems look to be easing somewhat, with both Walcott and Giroud available after the international break, so hopefully the nightmarish run of games will come to an end soon.
