A few games ago we’d all but given hope of finishing ahead of Tottenham this season, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side looking more likely to pip Leicester City to the league title rather than drop below us. Now second spot is genuinely within our grasp though, and Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea could have more of an impact than they initially realised.
Not only will their failure to catch Leicester be a blow to their confidence, but the fact that they let a 2-0 lead slip over Chelsea could really affect them. They could well be already somewhat defeated when they go up against Southampton this weekend, and that’s before we even take into account the players they could be missing.
Dele Alli has already been banned for the rest of the season (via The Evening Standard), with his ‘punch’ on Claudio Jacob earning him a lengthy ban. Moussa Dembele and Erik Lamela could face similar bans, and Tottenham could be left with a seriously depleted squad. The Belgian was guilty of raking his finger nails down Diego Costa’s face during one of the many brawls, while Cesc Fabregas insists that Lamela stood on his hand on purpose.
While Spurs unquestionably have a strong enough squad to put out a decent starting XI against Southampton, missing these key players will certainly be a blow. Add to that the fact that Southampton are finding some good form at the moment – most recently beating Manchester City 4-2 – and it’s certainly not unthinkable that Tottenham could lose this weekend.
If that were to happen and we were able to get the win over Manchester City, then it would all come down to the final gameweek, and we could end up celebrating St Totteringham’s day on the final day of the season.

Obviously a lot still has to go our way for this to happen, but we certainly shouldn’t give up hope and should throw all our support behind the team for these final two games.
