New statistics from OPTA and Squawka show that Arsenal’s new signing Lucas Perez is better than both Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud. It’s a surprise that this relatively-unknown striker has performed so well as Arsenal look to seal this under-the-radar transfer in the coming days (via The Sun).
When news broke of Arsenal’s imminent signing of Lucas Perez, Arsenal fans were delighted before rushing to Google to find out who on earth he is. Well new stats published show that the Deportivo La Coruna striker is actually better performing than Euro 2016 top goalscorer Antoine Griezmann and Arsenal’s current first choice striker, Olivier Giroud.
Perez leads the way over the French duo when it comes to assists, chances created, pass completion, and shot accuracy. It seems that the Spaniard is very adept at build-up play, something which the team sometimes lacks with Giroud up top.
Lucas’ build-up play seems far superior to the French pair. The Spaniard created an average of 2.07 chances per match last season, compared to 1.54 and 1.33 for Griezmann and Giroud respectively. Lucas also comes out on top for pass completion and key passes.
But creating chances isn’t really the top priority for an Arsenal striker with Mesut Ozil in the side. Fortunately, his shot accuracy is also impressive. Lucas gets 59% of his shots on target compared to 57% and 54% for the French pair.
It’s important to note that both Griezmann and Giroud outscored Lucas last season. Admittedly they both did it at better teams but Lucas was also outscored by the front three at FC Barcelona and Real Madrid as well as Swansea City’s new signing Borja Baston.
