Francis Coquelin has a new lease of life at Arsenal, and has looked invigorated since being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic, illustrated by this report in the Metro.
Despite a number of excellent performances, the Frenchman is still not considered to be of the required standard by the large majority of fans. These stats provided by Squawka however, suggest that the 23-year-old is exactly what we need; even implying that he has been outperforming Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.
Stats can of course be misleading, and if you have watched the Serbian this season then you know just how superb he has been for his side. While they don’t tell you everything however, the stats definitely show just how fantastic the young Gunner has been this campaign.

The numbers show that Coquelin excels over his Chelsea counterpart in every area, including tackles and aerial duels won, interceptions, and blocks.
Despite the evidence provided, to declare that our young defensive midfielder is better than Matic is a bit premature. It’s great to have him as an option in the absence of Mikel Arteta, especially as Mathieu Flamini has been so poor this season.
I am actually, and always have been, a big fan of Coquelin, but I also hope that his re-emergence at the Emirates doesn’t convince Arsene Wenger that his search for a top quality defensive midfielder is over.
