Nigerian teenager Victor Osimhen claims there is ‘strong’ interest in him from Arsenal, and revealed that he would be viewing our facilities ahead of a potential transfer, as reported by footballlive.ng (via the Metro).
The talented youngster was part of the Nigerian side that dominated the U17s World Cup earlier in 2015, with the striker’s goals leading his side the victory. The report suggests we are facing serious competition from Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, but it hardly seems like a choice between the two clubs.
Arsene Wenger is famed for his ability to nurture young talent, and he puts his faith in youth like no other manager does. Osimhen is clearly aware of the reputation the Frenchman has, and suggests that after his visit to the Emirates his mind will be made up.
“I spoke with the [Wolfsburg] coach who also made several promises and if I eventually choose to sign for them, I hope they’ll keep their word,” he said.
“But I have not decided where to go yet because Arsenal are also showing strong interests and perhaps after my visit to the club, I will have a clear view of where I want to go.”
Despite heavy links to Wolfsburg, the reports suggest we are the favourites for his signature. The German side are unquestionably an excellent side, but as evidenced by their two defeats at the Emirates Cup this year – one of which was against us – we are a far superior outfit.

We currently have a number of young strikers on our books, with Yaya Sanogo, Alex Iwobi, Chuba Akpom all looking to break into the team. So far none have shown they have what it takes, and a little more competition wouldn’t do any of them any harm.

Our facilities, along with the appeal of Arsene Wenger, are a big draw to any player, especially a youngster like Osimhen.
