Theo Walcott has been left out of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the Euro 2016 Championships, and is understandably disappointed with the manager’s decision.
He claims he understands why he’s been left out though, and took to Twitter to wish the team the best of luck.
I am of course disappointed not to make the squad, but I have spoken with Roy and respect his decision

I wish Roy and all the team the best of luck for a successful Euro’s.

It was hardly surprising to see his name omitted from the list, as he’s barely featured for Arsenal all season. His lack of game time was unquestionably a deciding factor in Hodgson’s choice to leave him out, with the likes of Andros Townsend and Raheem Sterling making the team ahead of him.

However, while he insists he’s disappointed, Walcott doesn’t exactly sound too broken up about missing out on a call up. This has been a feature of Walcott’s career recently, with the pacy forward showing a real lack of desire and determination. While you don’t want your players throwing their toys out of the pram every time they are substituted, you want them to show a bit of fire. Walcott hasn’t looked like he cares whether he plays or not recently, instead just being happy to go through the motions and pick up his paycheck from the bench.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave the club this summer, with his England exclusion potentially a wake-up call. He may struggle even more for first-team football next season, and if he wants to further his career then it may be time for a move.
