Arsenal starlet Calum Chambers has reserved praise for Arsene Wenger after what has been a rollercoaster first season at the club for the 20-year-old, The Evening Standard reports.
Following his arrival from Southampton last summer, Chambers was thrown in at the deep end immediately as we experienced a crisis in our defensive department.
Chambers started 23 games for club and country before December which forced Wenger to take him out of the team, a luxury we could afford following the arrival of Gabriel in January.

Despite seeing little action in the second half of the season, Chambers insists that he’s learnt a great deal since joining us.
“In a short space of time I think I have grown massively,” the England U21 star was quoted as saying in The Evening Standard.

“I have exceeded my expectations of what I thought I would achieve.
“I can’t thank him enough. I think he is very thoughtful in everything he does and you know he gives everyone a chance and gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality as well.”
Chambers hadn’t featured at centre-back before joining us, but his appearances there have been far more encouraging than when deployed in his natural right-back berth.
His pace is often exploited when dragged out wide, as we saw with Jefferson Montero, and his stature is definitely more suited to a central role.
Hopefully, Chambers can get more minutes in the heart of our defence next term and continue his journey to becoming a top class player.
