Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed he has received no contact for defender Ashley Williams, a player who is believed to be on the brink of a move to Emirates this summer.
The Welsh captain led his side to Capital One Cup glory this year in what have been two brilliant seasons in England’s elite league. His top performances have led to suggestions he could be on the move to a Champions League grade team with Arsenal reportedly monitoring his situation.
While the media have suggested Wenger is closing in on a move for the Welshman, Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post he has received no contact over the availability of the Swansea star:
While there seems to be constant speculation about Ashley Williams, I can honestly say that I have not had one call from anybody about him.
There have been all sorts of stories in the press about what is happening with Ash but I have never heard anything from anyone.
Although the Gunners have three top class centre halves there has been plenty of talk suggesting that Wenger wants to add another top quality central defender into the mix.
But it is no real surprise that there has been no formal approach from the Gunners. Just media speculation at this stage.

While Williams would be a brilliant addition in theory, but with effectively Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Koscielny in front of him in the pecking order it is difficult to see any deal eventuating.
The Gunners also have the youngster Miquel who will be itching for action and has already proven his ability to be a top centre back for the future, he just needs match experience. Bacary Sagna can also provide cover centrally if required, his best performance this season was easily the brilliant display at centre back against Sunderland.
What are your thoughts Gooners? Do you think Arsenal actually need Williams? It seems their money is best spent elsewhere..
