Wojciech Szczesny is set to return to Arsenal from his loan spell with Roma and is determined to fight Petr Cech for a place in the first-team, according to The Independent.
The Serie A side have decided against attempting to keep hold of the goalkeeper and following the arrival of sporting director Monchi from Sevilla, have already begun searching for a new shot-stopper.
Szczesny, meanwhile, will head back to England but wants to stay in the Premier League, and preferably as the Gunners’ first choice, despite reports claiming he is surplus to requirements at the Emirates.
Certainly there has been plenty of talk about the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal. Cech has not consistently been at his best this season and has shown signs of decline, understandably so, given he will turn 35 this month.
David Ospina has done well as back-up but there appears little chance he will remain at the club as is he keen for regular football and widely expected to leave.
That leaves Emiliano Martinez who surely lacks the experience to be first-choice next season, unless Arsenal opt to bring another goalkeeper in.

The club have been linked with several options including Kasper Schmeichel, Jordan Pickford and even Rui Patricio which suggests the subject of goalkeeper is certainly a position under discussion at Arsenal next season.
