Arsenal have provided an update on Alexandre Lacazette’s ankle injury ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League fixture (via Arsenal.com).
Team News – Player Ratings – Match Highlights
Match: Arsenal v Standard Liege
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 20:00 03/10/2019
It’s another Europa League match with the Gunners set to take on Standard Liege at the Emirates Stadium.
It is an opportunity for Unai Emery to rotate his squad and hopefully give some game time to the players on the fringes of the first team.
But it’s also a chance to give some minutes to those recovering from an injury like Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney, and Rob Holding.
Those three have been declared fully fit for the match but there are still some doubts about the other injured players.
Now, the club has confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette is still expected to return to fitness later this month but that this match will come too soon for the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe is being monitored after picking up a knock against Nottingham Forest and is returning to first-team training.
It’s pretty much as we expected regarding Arsenal’s team news. Alexandre Lacazette was never likely to play this game but it’s good to get confirmation that the rest of the returning players are still on course. Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, and Kieran Tierney have all had serious injuries of late and will need to be eased back into first-team action. This match is a good opportunity to do just that.
