Well, it’s hardly the ideal news ahead of the match this weekend. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that not only are Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud not available for the fixture, neither player will return for a couple of weeks.
Aaron Ramsey has been out since limping off the pitch on the opening match of the season while Olivier Giroud picked up a toe injury at PSG in September. Both players have suffered setbacks in their injuries but it was expected that they would be back for the Swansea match. Wenger has confirmed that that is not the case.
“Giroud will not be available and Aaron Ramsey will not be available,” Wenger said at his pre-match press conference.
It seems that Ramsey will be getting a lengthy layoff.

“It’s a vicious circle.” Wenger went on. “The fact that he had a setback so we rest him and the longer that lasts the more time you have dedicated to his fitness.
“He’s been out for six weeks then you have to create a new three weeks or preparation to get him up to the level he was before the injury. It’s more the time it takes to rebuild his fitness.
“We have decided that we will give him a complete pre-season now even if he misses one or two more games.”
“Giroud is a little bit the same. He has been out now he has still not been on the pitches. I think he has a jog today for the first time so he’s been interrupted a lot in his preparation.”
However, there was some good news. The Boss confirmed that Francis Coquelin is back and available for Saturday, that Mesut Özil has said he is fully fit and that even Carl Jenkinson is ready to return to action.
“He will be playing tonight for the under-23s,” Wenger said. “After that, it is down to getting more competition, he’s been out for a very long time but he is available now to play again.”
So it’s a bit of a mixed bag on the injury front but this could work out well for Arsenal. The side is playing very well at the moment and it seems unlikely that either Aaron Ramsey or Olivier Giroud would be near the starting line-up. With the pair having an effective pre-season now, they will be fully fit and fresh enough to come in should a starting player get injured or lose form in the coming months.
