Arsene Wenger has revealed Alexis Sanchez stands a chance to be available for selection on Monday ahead of their crunch Premier League tie with title rivals Manchester City, according to Arsenal Player.
The Chilean has been out with a hamstring injury sustained against Norwich City in late November, and was widely expected to be available for the City tie at Emirates Stadium on December 21st. However doubts inevitably crept in as the fixture soon approaches, but the Arsenal boss believes he stands an outside chance of being involved.
The Gunners boss confirmed there were no fresh injury worries after the weekend’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, and went on to suggest Arsenal’s star winger could well be in the mix after his return to training ahead of the weekend.
“At the moment everybody that played against Aston Villa is available for Monday night, one or two [may] possibly come back.” The Frenchman told reporters in his pre-match press conference (via Arsenal Player).“Maybe, there is a slight chance for Alexis [Sanchez] to be in the squad again but it is too early to be sure about it.”
“He is running but not participating in full training. I believe it is normal that he wants to play. You want him to be keen to play. He respects all the decisions I make and that is what I want from him.”
If Alexis is indeed fit enough to start or be involved in some capacity, it will be a huge boost in confidence heading into the New Year. With Theo Walcott fitting fit, Olivier Giroud and Alexis collectively provide a fearsome trio that provides width, pace, power and strength to scare any defence in the league.
