Unai Emery has confirmed that three players have returned to full training including Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka (via Arsenal.com).
Team News – Player Ratings – Match Highlights
Match: Liverpool v Arsenal
Stadium: Anfield, Liverpool
Kick-Off (UK Time): 17:30 24/08/2019
It’s a battle between the Premier League’s early pace-setters as Arsenal travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Both sides will enter the match with 100% records in the league but something has to give on Saturday evening.
Unai Emery has hardly had his strongest squad to choose from so far this season but has now reacted to the news that Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil have returned to full training.
“Today they trained, but really, I need tomorrow to have the last training,” Emery said on Thursday.
“I know some players need to be fit and to improve 100 per cent to be in their best fitness. But tomorrow is the day. Really I am positive with some players for Saturday but I don’t want to decide today or to say to you today how we are because tomorrow can change.”
Emery was then asked about Ozil specifically.
“I think he needs to be fit and also he is training as normal with the team. I think this is the first way to achieve that fitness. After that, to help us with his capacity.”
The club also confirmed that Rob Holding is back in full training and that Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney, and Dinos Mavropanos will all return in October.
It seems as if Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka will be available for selection on Saturday evening. However, it’s doubtful whether either will be considered given the opposition. Arsenal need a big performance and it isn’t the type of fixture in which either Mesut Ozil or Granit Xhaka have typically thrived in.
