Arsene Wenger has revealed he is optimistic Bacary Sagna will be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday, however he faces a late fitness test.
Lukas Podolski is close to his return too with Wenger suggesting he is “available”, however he played down any involvement the Germany international will have on this weekend’s tie at Etihad, suggesting he is not quite up to speed.
Elsewhere, the squad appears largely fine with the Arsenal boss suggesting there are some doubts after what has been a grueling two weeks for the Gunners. Not the really most ideal time to play Manchester City.
Wenger told the media in his pre-match press conference:
[on the team news] The final check will be made on Friday morning because only yesterday the players came in. But everybody felt alright. We have some doubts. The main doubt we have is about Sagna, who will have a test [on Friday] and after that I will make the decision about whether I take him with us or not.
[on being optimistic about Sagna] I am optimistic but it’s my nature.

[on Podolski] He is available. I feel he is still a bit short to go into a match of that level of intensity but after this weekend I will consider him to be available.
