Arsene Wenger is reasonably certain Laurent Kosicelny will be available for Arsenal’s season opener at home to Crystal Palace this weekend.
The Gunners German contingent will be not be available for selection however and will not be until next weekends clash with Everton.
Wenger faces a lack of options at centre back for the new campaign with captain Thomas Vermaelen leaving for Barcelona and Per Mertesacker having an extended break after Germany’s World Cup heroics.
Koscielny’s Achilles injury picked up against Manchester City last weekend threw another spanner in the works, however it appears he should be fit to lineup on Saturday evening.
Wenger faced the media ahead of their opening day clash and provided a fitness update:
Koscielny had an Achilles problem but he has a final test today and should be available.

The Germans are not ready yet, they continue their preparation and the earliest they could be considered again is Everton.
It is brilliant news to hear Koscielny will hopefully lineup on Saturday potentially alongside Calum Chambers. There is less pressure then for Mertesacker to return too quickly and another chance for Chambers to demonstrate his ability.
Wenger also confirmed another German star is set to miss out, with Serge Gnabry still suffering from inflammation to the knee.
The Gunners boss suggested the young winger could still head out on loan, but for now he remains within his plans for the season despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
He’s still injured at the moment and we have to follow his progress. He needs competition and if nobody goes in the current squad it could happen.
At the moment he’s not fit and recovering from a long-term knee inflammation. Even if he was fit, he would play for us.
