Arsene Wenger gave his routine team news update to Arsenal’s official website and did little to squash rumours of long absences for star duo Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla.
There were however some positive news for Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott who could both be in the squad for Saturday’s Premier League match against Sunderland. The news of Walcott’s potential return is a huge boost, especially after losing Alexis at the weekend. Meanwhile Koscielny will hope to teach Gabriel how to mark a striker goal-side.
Wenger offered little insight into how long Alexis, Cazorla and club captain Mikel Arteta will be out for, with suggestions Alexis could be out for three weeks (according to Daily Mail), and Cazorla three months (via ESPNFC).
“We will make a decision on Saturday on Koscielny and Walcott, they could both make the squad. Gibbs is available again for the weekend.” Wenger told Arsenal.com.
“At the moment on Alexis, Santi and Mikel, we don’t know how long they will be out for.”
Many fans had hoped for some more concrete information from the Gunners boss but no doubt we will have to wait until Friday’s press conference.
