The Gunners are set to travel to Germany without Aaron Ramsey as the Welshman suffered a groin strain and will be replaced by Johan Djourou in Wenger’s 18 man squad.
Although Theo Walcott is still in the named traveling party, according to sources the Englishman is suffering from illness since Sunday and is a doubt ahead of the vital clash against the Bundesliga side.
There is positive news for the Gunners though as Arsene Wenger looks set to utilize Jack Wilshere as the young midfielder will be suspended for this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Fulham after his sending off at the weekend.
Wenger revealed his thoughts on starting the 20-year-old:
[On Wilshere] I think I will play him tomorrow.
Then we have a block of three games and maybe the fact that he gets a period of recovering will be just right for him. He gets better in every game.
There are also two names missing that were expected to be fit for the vital Champions League away fixture – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs. The duo have been missing for some time now, especially Gibbs and would’ve been starters had they been fit.

So Wenger is now down to his last two wingers essentially in Podolski and Arshavin with Walcott off colour. Ramsey has been deployed out wide with woeful returns recently and his injury is a blessing in disguise. Another surprise omission is starlet Serge Gnabry despite the lack of midfield and wide options, knowing the Gunners luck he’s probably on the treatment table too.
Hopefully Arshavin can take this opportunity and show his worth with the side looking increasingly depleted after every fixture. The Russian starred in a more central role against Reading last week, and although he will not play in midfield against Schalke his experience and composure will be welcomed out wide with a limited amount of decent crosses produced at present. Giroud needs to get his head on something worthwhile!
