Yaya Sanogo has been criticised by on loan Ajax striker Richairo Zivkovic, with the 19-year-old claiming he’s better than the Frenchman and deserves to be ahead of him in the pecking order, as reporeted by ELF Voetball (via the Daily Star).
Sanogo was regularly criticised following his Arsenal arrival, and although much of the criticism was fair, it was a little harsh considering the young striker had arrived at Arsenal and been thrown straight in at the deep end when the fans were hoping for an established, world class striker.
He struggled to establish himself at Arsenal despite plenty of chances, and wasn’t much better while on loan with Crystal Palace.
And he hasn’t fared well during his loan spell with Ajax either, seeing his chances restricted and failing to impress even when given the opportunity. Zivkovic is clearly among his critics, and defiantly insists that he’s better than the Arsenal man.
“Am I better than Sanogo? Yes!” Zivkovic told Dutch outlet ELF Voetball.
“I was already gone when Sanogo came in. But then Kolbeinn Soghtorsson left.

“I wanted to compete with ‘Arek’ Milik for the first striker position. I did not want to be a second striker with no prospect of being a first striker.”
Even without knowing much about Zivkovic, you wouldn’t like to disagree with him with any real conviction. Sanogo has been totally unimpressive since his move to Arsenal – at the Emirates and out on loan – despite numerous chances. You can argue that he’s still quite young and very raw, but he just doesn’t look like he has what it takes to succeed at the top level.
Arsenal transfer news
Arsene Wenger is known for taking risks on youth, but this one doesn’t seem to have paid off. It’s hard to see Sanogo having a future at Arsenal, but if he can prove us wrong then more power to him.
