It’s been a tough 12 months for Arsenal from Baku to Brighton and everything in between. But it’s not all bad. A handful of players have come out the other side of 2019 with their stock higher than before. Here are Arsenal’s five best-performing players of the year
5) Matteo Guendouzi
He’s come off the boil in the last few weeks but Matteo Guendouzi can look back on a very impressive year. The youngster has developed significantly in the last 12 months and went from being a bit-part player to a key starter for Unai Emery. Let’s hope it continues in the months and years to come.
4) Aaron Ramsey
He may have left the club in the summer but that says more about this current squad than anything else. Aaron Ramsey had an extraordinary few months towards the end of last season and deserves a place on this list.
3) Alexandre Lacazette
Much like Guendouzi, Alexandre Lacazette’s recent dip in form shouldn’t take away from what has been an impressive year. The Frenchman has become a more rounded player in 2019, adding an off-the-ball ability and hold-up play to his game which was previously lacking.
2) Bernd Leno
He’s been Arsenal’s player of the season so far but he doesn’t quite take the number one slot. Bernd Leno is the best goalkeeper the club has had for years and years. He’s one of the best stoppers in the Premier League and has needed to be this season. Let’s hope the club can learn to rely on him a little less in the months to come.
1) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
It had to be him. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in wonderful form in 2019, scoring an impressive 29 goals for the club in all competitions. Let’s hope it continues into 2020 because it’s worrying to think where the club would be without him up top.
