The Szczesny v Fabianski debate rages on, Arsene Wenger has yet to make a public decision on the matter, so no doubt it’s down to the lineup announcement prior to kickoff until we know for sure.
Lukasz Fabianski has been immense in the cup, helping the Gunners to progress to the final with assured performances against the likes of the Spuds, Liverpool and Everton not to mention his heroics in the penalty shoot out against Wigan.
After the semi final many Gooners have felt strongly that the elder Pole should be chosen, but although sentimentally it’s nice to think he will and keep a clean sheet, the reality is he’s leaving and Szczesny is our No1.
Wenger has been pragmatic in his selections in the past, opting for David Seaman in the final back in the day over the then cup goalkeeper Manninger (was it?) The situation is slightly different this time round however as Fabianski is a brilliant ‘keeper and is roughly on a similar level to his younger compatriot.
But what it predominantly comes down to is Fabianski is on the way out with his contract set to expire and there it appears he will not be signing a new deal. Unless he signs a new deal today it seems Szczesny will be starting between the sticks. Will Wenger prove me wrong? I’ll be interested to see at around 4.00pn today.
