The Invincibles or the United treble winners? Gerrard or Lampard? Questions like these are debated in every pub, club and well, this article.
Manchester United Treble Winners vs. The Arsenal Invincibles
Every Arsenal fan in their right mind will go for the Invincibles. No Premier League club has come close to repeating the feat of going an entire season unbeaten and it could be some time before we see it again.
With world class players all over the pitch – Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Gilberto Silva, that side had everything needed to not only win matches but to win them with the sort of style and flair we haven’t seen in England since.
That’s not to dismiss the United Treble Winners. It was a great side with great players but they didn’t win their trophies with as much style and ease as the Invincibles. It’s important to note that Arsenal really should’ve been the team to win both the Premier League and the FA Cup that season.
Arsenal’s league loss against Leeds – in a match they really should have won – handed United the title and who can forget that FA Cup semi-final between the two teams? Dennis Bergkamp missing a penalty in extra time only for Ryan Giggs to dribble past a dozen players at the other end and score a late winner. Fortune favoured United that season so to say they were a better side than the Invincibles would be unfair.

Frank Lampard vs. Steven Gerrard
As good a player as Steven Gerrard was, Frank Lampard was better. In terms of consistency and ability to adapt to different teams, Lampard edged ahead. He won everything he could with Chelsea and while he was playing with better players, time after time he was the one who stepped up on the biggest occasions.

It was his goals that won Chelsea’s first league title in 50 years. The former Blues man scored a number of crucial goals in the 2011-12 Champions League winning season as well playing a big role in the Premier League for a number of years.
The most impressive thing about Lampard was his goalscoring ability. He surpassed 10 Premier League goals in 10 consecutive seasons which would be impressive for a striker, let alone from midfield.
Admittedly, Steven Gerrard had his moments. Some of the most memorable football moments in the last few years have been because of the former Liverpool captain. The 2005 Champions League final remains iconic, as does the FA Cup the following season.

Is Sergio Aguero Guaranteed The Golden Boot?
Nobody is guaranteed to finish top scorer. Sergio Aguero is certainly the favourite but there are a number of factors which play against the Argentinean finishing on top. He has eight so far this term and is averaging a goal every 93 minutes which is frankly outstanding. He’s one of the best finishers on the planet and can get a goal from any situation and while he is the favourite to take the crown, it’s not a guarantee.
Sergio Aguero isn’t Pep Guardiola’s ideal centre-forward. He’s an excellent finisher but Aguero doesn’t add enough to the team for Guardiola’s liking and with other options in the squad and the impressive Gabriel Jesus joining in January, he could find himself out of the team.
Diego Costa is on fire, as are Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez. That’s not to mention Harry Kane who has missed a number of matches this season but with three goals to his name, isn’t out of the race.
