Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is closing in on a return to English football with Nottingham Forest. The Danish forward is currently a free agent after being released by Wolfsburg in the summer (via ESPN).
He’s the Emirates cult hero who has a reputation across Europe for not being very good but we could soon see Nicklas Bendtner back in English football. The 28-year-old is now attracting the attention of a number of Championship sides with Nottingham Forest leading the chase.
The striker has made over 70 appearances for the Danish National Team, scoring 29 goals, but isn’t garnering the interest of any top flight clubs. Nicklas Bendtner certainly isn’t known within the football world as a top class centre forward and has become a walking punchline on social media.
The former Arsenal man joined the club as a youth player and spent over 10 years in North London. Bendtner spent much of his time at Arsenal out on loan. The Danish forward had spells at Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus before joining Wolfsburg in 2014. He had his contract terminated early by the German club this summer after reported off-the-field issues.
Now Lord Bendtner is closing in on a return to the English game. ESPN reports that Nottingham Forest are the club closest to signing the 28-year-old despite interest from London side QPR. One interesting thing about the potential transfer is that Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on September 20. Let’s hope that Gunners fans will have one last opportunity to see the Lord in action.
