Arsenal may have already signed Alexandre Lacazette this summer, but it seems Arsene Wenger is still keen to strengthen his attack further.
The Gunners have reportedly already made bids for Thomas Lemar, who seems the priority, with Riyah Mahrez also on the radar.
Signing Lemar looks more of a challenge, with Monaco intent not to sell, while Mahrez has already announced his intention to quit Leicester City this summer.
However, looking through the statistics of both players from last season, it seems obvious that Lemar is the man Arsenal really should push for.
As we can see from the above graphic from Smartbets.com, Lemar’s stats look better than Mahrez’s in almost all areas, particularly chances created and assists, while his pass completion record of 84% is impressive.

Obviously it’s worth remembering Lemar was playing in a team that was challenging for the title, while Leicester largely struggled last season, until Claudio Ranieri was replaced.
And while you can’t measure everything with statistics, they are a useful indicator that hint that Lemar could well prove a better investment, also because he is five years younger than Mahrez.
One potential stumbling block appears to be the price. Recent reports have claimed Arsenal have offered somewhere in the region of £45m for the winger, while Monaco want a massive £80m.
If the move does fall though, then Mahrez represents an excellent Plan B, but there seems no doubt at the moment that Lemar is Wenger’s top target.
The final question to ask is, could either replace Alexis Sanchez? It’s doubtful many players could replace the Chilean’s contribution at Arsenal, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that either Lemar or Mahrez will be playing alongside Alexis at the Emirates next season.
