Recent reports have suggested that we were close to signing Jackson Martinez (via the Daily Mail), but it seems now as though we have missed out on the Colombian striker.
The prolific forward has already agreed a move away from FC Porto, and the club’s president insists that he has chosen to move to AC Milan, as reported by The Guardian.

The report claims the Serie A side have met the €35m release clause in his current contract, and that Martinez has opted for a move to Italy.
Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa confirmed the news, claiming that the in demand star had made his decision.
“Jackson Martinez has chosen Milan,” said Porto president Pinto da Costa.

“Before going on holiday Jackson announced he wanted to leave. The €35m clause is not up for debate and must be paid. I learned just now that Jackson has chosen Milan. This is what he wants, the destination is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. I want him to be happy.”
Martinez is certainly a quality forward, but we could arguably do far better. Missing out on the 28-year-old might not be the worst thing in the world, provided we bring in someone better.
We almost certainly need attacking reinforcements, so hopefully after missing out on one of our top targets, Arsene Wenger will step up the chase for a new forward.
