Lucas Torreira has revealed the process behind his summer move from Sampdoria to Arsenal (via The Mirror).
He has quickly become one of the most popular players with the Arsenal fans but Lucas Torreira wasn’t destined to be a Gunners player.
The Uruguayan international’s agent has spoken in the past about how close Torreira was to remain in Italy.
Now, Torreira himself has revealed the chain of events which led to him packing up and heading for North London.
“Well, everything about Arsenal came out before the World Cup,” Torreira said.
“When I was preparing to go to the World Cup with my country, with Uruguay, I received a call from the boss. I had already had a talk with my agent who told me about the idea of Arsenal, and I was very happy because when I was in Italy, I never imagined being able to come to the Premier League.
“There was rumours of many Italian teams, this ended up surprising me honestly, and when I received the call from the boss I was very happy. When I went to the World Cup, I knew that whatever happened I was going to sign for Arsenal.
“So I was with a calm head, free, and luckily I had a great World Cup with my country.”

It’s an interesting series of quotes but it’s a relief that Lucas Torreira did indeed agree to join Arsenal. The 22-year-old is a hugely talented player and will, hopefully, become a part of the Gunners’ midfield for many years to come.
