Plenty of news tonight involving a host of ‘top’ Arsenal transfer targets. Cesc Fabregas is likely to remain with Barcelona according to Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, while former Arsenal star Perry Grove has urged the Gunners to sign Celtic star Victor Wanyama who is set to depart Scotland and Fiorentina have confirmed the exit of star striker Stevan Jovetic this summer as he seeks ‘new experiences’.
Firstly onto Cesc Fabregas who has been making headlines recently with rumours heating up surrounding his future. Both Manchester clubs have registered interest in the former Arsenal captain after another undulating season with the Catalan giants, however it seems that he will in fact remain in Spain with his buyout clause massive – at least for next season.
With the impending arrival of Brazilian star Neymar his chances may further take a dent as he has sometimes operated in a more advanced role similarly with the national team, but Balague has expressed his expert opinion on the matter. He told Sky Sports News of Fabregas:
He is surprised by the rumours that are so strong in England.
The club has definitely told me this evening that they have got no intention whatsoever of selling him.
His buyout clause, in case anybody is interested, is €200million (£171m), which is a little bit expensive. In any case it is a deterrent for people to come and try to poach him away.

If anything was going to happen it would be in the future, maybe next year, who knows, but what seems certain is that both the club and himself have decided he will stay at Barcelona for at least one more season.
Personally I never saw him leaving especially after just two seasons with his boyhood club. The rumours of a move to Manchester are simply just that – nothing will eventuate there, if he was to return to England it would be back to Arsenal. While he will remain in Spain this summer, if things do not change then he may be forced to re-evaluate the situation come next year, with Xavi and Iniesta the strongest midfield pairing in the world how on earth can you expect Fabregas to play regularly?
Victor Wanyama is another interesting target for the summer. The 21-year-old Kenyan combative midfielder is precisely the type of player Gooners have been calling for to help screen the back four, and former Arsenal winger Perry Groves has urged Wenger to move for the player whose current contract runs to 2015. He is reportedly on the look for his next challenge to further his promising career this summer.
The likes of rivals Spurs, Southampton and even Inter Milan are keen on acquiring the talented midfielder’s services however Grove has urged the Gunners to sign him quickly as he is a bargain at £10million. The Express reported Grove said:
I really like Wanyama – he is destined for big things.
He may be young but he plays for a massive club, has lots of experience for a young player, and he fits the Wenger model – he is hungry, strong and technically very good.
He would offer real protection for the back four, and a real thrust and drive going forward.
We need big players who can step up to the plate and make an impact against the bigger teams, because that is what let us down last year – we had a woeful record against the other teams in the top four.
We need strong mentalities, players who can impose themselves.
I would like to see experienced lads who can come straight into the starting side, not players who take time to gel.
The lad would be an interesting prospect and someone that we would actually get excited about acquiring, another player in this mold would have to be Stevan Jovetic. The Fiorentina ace will highly likely depart the Italian outfit this summer after news emerged that he wants to seek ‘new experiences’ according to the club’s general manager Sandro Mencucci.
It is no secret that Arsenal in need of a star striker, and the Montenegro international is high on the wishlist of many fans but Wenger faces stiff competition for the forwards signature with a host of clubs interested (as reported yesterday here), however it is good news for Arsenal that Fiorentina are resided to loosing their star man.
When discussing the uncertain future surround midfielder Adem Ljajic, Mencucci said according to the Metro:
Ljajic and Jovetic are two completely different situations, because Jovetic wants a new experience and we’ll try to make him happy, but only if a suitable offer comes in. However, we want to renew Ljajic’s contract and will see how that negotiation process evolves.
Teammate and former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani added further fuel to the fire by suggesting that Jovetic made an agreement last year with Fiorentina where they will let him move if he stayed at the club last season. He said:
I think at this point [Jovetic] is going to leave. Last year they promised if he stayed another season then he could choose his future. Aside from being a team-mate, he is also a great person who would do well at any club.
If the Gunners can manage to sign both Jovetic and Waynama a hole will certainly be plugged in the Gunners squad. Both of these two positions need to be filled this summer and the duo are wanted by a host of top clubs which is always a good sign for Arsenal. As for Fabregas? He would be a dream signing, someone that could really reinforce our midfield and provide plenty of creativity. He always was able to unleash Walcott with his pinpoint passing which is something we sometimes miss. Cazorla, Wilshere and Rosicky are all excellent but are not quite Fabregas, his Spanish team-mate Santi has been utilized as a wideman to great effect while Wilshere is more effective in the box-to-box role meaning there is certainly room for our ex-captain! But nothing will come of the rumours this summer unfortunately, and he may in fact never return if Xavi looks at hanging up the boots soon.
