Valencia have said that Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi is not for sale and will not be leaving the club this summer. He has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium but Valencia seem determined to keep the German World Cup winner (via ESPN).
It’s a transfer saga which has infuriated Arsenal fans for weeks and the club’s pursuit of Shkodran Mustafi has taken a new turn. Yesterday it emerged that Valencia are demanding around £50 million for the 24-year-old whose manager Pako Ayestaran has now said that the player will not be leaving.
“Mustafi is not for sale and will not be leaving the club.” Ayestaran said after Valencia’s 4-2 defeat to Las Palmas on Monday night.
The 53-year-old also spoke about Paco Alcacer, the Valencia striker being linked with a move to FC Barcelona. “With Alcacer, I can be as firm as with Mustafi. [club president] Lay Hoon already said it. The president has said in public that Alcacer and Mustafi are not for sale and I have to believe her.”
Ayestaran did add that “the market is open and there are still possibilities.” But his quotes will not make for good reading for Arsenal fans. Laurent Koscielny has returned to the side following his extended leave but aside from the Frenchman Arsenal only have Rob Holding and Calum Chambers available.
The Gunners undoubtedly need another centre back and will not be pleased with how long this transfer is taking. Let’s hope Arsene Wenger and the board has other targets lined up in case this one doesn’t go to plan.
