There have been rumours flying around for the past month or so that a return to Arsenal for Robin Van Persie is on the cards.
Van Persie is said be unhappy with David Moyes training method’s at United as he feels that Moyes ‘over-trains’ him, which leaves him open to injuries.
Van Persie’s International coach, Dutch Manager Raymond Verheijen, who once described Moyes’s training methods as ‘Jurassic’, also said that Moyes is ‘technically deficient’.
Verheijen told Irish radio station NewsTalk on the Off the Ball show, in December:
Coincidentally when United were in Sydney last July, I was there as well. I went to the training sessions and I could see what they were doing with Robin van Persie. He had to do a lot of running work and sometimes he even had to do it twice a day.
You have to keep in mind that he missed the first week of pre-season so his fitness level was lower than the rest of the team. That already means you have to be careful.

[Van Persie] had also just travelled for 30 hours and he had a nine-hour time difference. Normally the body takes a week to recover from that. And still, despite these difficulties, they immediately over-trained him because they want him to catch up on the rest of the team. Moyes literally said it in the media. “You don’t have to be Einstein to understand that is gambling.”
Verheijen went on to say:
If you look at the track record of Moyes at Everton, in the nine pre-seasons that he did, he had seven or eight times an injury crisis in pre-season followed by a slow start to the season. Clearly that pattern repeated itself at United.
The planning and conditioning part in his coaching is prehistoric.
Van Persie, who is used to being treated with kid-gloves by previous Manager’s, Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson, is not happy that he is being made train like a 21-year old.
It has also been noted that Verheijen’s predictions have come true, as Van Persie, who spent his last year at Arsenal and his first year at United, in the form of his life and relevantly injury free. Since Moyes has taken over, Van Persie has suffered injury after injury, which has kept him out for weeks at a time and seen his form drop dramatically.
Fuel has been added to the fire regarding a Van Persie return to the Gunners, by none other than his old Manager at Arsenal, Arsne Wenger.
During his pre-match press conference before Wednesday’s home game against Unite, Wenger was asked to clarify the situation regarding the RVP rumours refused to rule out the possibility.
Wenger, who would normally just answer yes or no to such a question, replied to the journo’s present:
I don’t think that’s an ideal subject for us to treat today.
When pressed further and asked if he’d rule it out Wenger replied:
I think it best we don’t talk about that at the moment.
The journo then said:
That’s not a No then?
Wenger just sucked in a breath and then laughed. But he didn’t answer.
It has also been rumoured that Van Persie’s family, who didn’t want to move from London in the first-place, are said not to have settled in the North-West, having to leave close friends and a beautiful new house behind.
So, are we to see Van Persie back in an Arsenal Shirt next season and more importantly, would this sight be accepted by you Gooners?
