Former Arsenal captain and talisman Robin Van Persie has spoken out at his admiration for Arsene Wenger and believes the Gunners manager is on par with his Scottish counterpart.
The striker who switched North London for Manchester in the summer became the first under Wenger’s tutorship to make the transition, and the Dutchman has heaped praise on his former boss.
He will face his former side for the first time next weekend as they visit Old Trafford on November 3, and the in-form striker believes Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are on par despite the fact that the Red Devil’s manager has won more titles.
He told Mirror Sport:
I am the only player who can judge what it’s like working with Arsene [Wenger] and Sir Alex [Ferguson].
It is an absolute privilege to say that in my career I have had both these managers at the clubs I have played for. They are both icons as managers in football.

They are both world class, one not more nor less than the other. I purely look at this comparison as a footballer. I look at the way they both work on the pitch, in training, at the club and off the field.
I had a fantastic time with Arsene. I enjoyed training, playing, talking and all the other times I spent with him. I love it that I now experience the same with Sir Alex.
But what I love about both managers is that they came to their clubs for a good cause.
They both wanted to be at the club for a really long time.
Firstly, your not the ‘only’ player to have played for both Wenger and Sir Alex as Mikel Silvester has too! The move has worked out for the best for the Dutchman, however from Arsenal’s point of view Wenger must be kicking himself that they’ve lost a striker that will be netting at least 30 goals this season.
So are the comparisons of Wenger and Sir Alex fair? In my opinion yes. To a certain degree Ferguson has had access to whatever resources he required which is the main difference between the two – such as splashing out £25m on a 29-year-0ld striker (RvP) which may decide the title race for the reds. On the other hand Wenger wouldn’t even consider such a move.
Virtually every season United have reinforced their squad and look at it now. They have four strikers who are more than capable of starting, whereas Arsenal have Giroud who is still adapting to life in England and Gervinho who is crap (at present).
To be honest Wenger should receive more praise for finishing in the top four consistently when he is forced to sell his best players every year. But the reality is the Gunners haven’t won a single piece of silverware since 2005 whereas Ferguson has won approximately 13 since then.
But back to Van Persie – I really hope the Gunners can improve over the next week and show the formal Arsenal striker up. Wenger should unleash a certain Ghanaian so the Dutchman can get Frimponged . Arsenal need to beat United if they want any realistic chance of fighting for the title this season as there will be a huge point deficit between the sides already.
