While Jamie Vardy looked certain to become our second signing last weekend, it now appears as though the England international is set to snub Arsenal in favour of a Leicester stay, according to The Evening Standard.

The 29-year-old is currently away on international duty with England, getting ready for the Euro 2016 Championships that kick off on Friday. The Standard’s report claims he’s spoken to England teammates – who have consequently leaked the story to the press – insisting that he’s “80 percent” sure he’s going to turn down a switch to the Emirates.
This news comes after an exciting weekend where news of our move for Vardy broke, with Arsene Wenger activating his £20m release clause and offering him a £120,000 per week deal to make a move to Arsenal. The final decision and the potential move have obviously been delayed due to the Euros, with Roy Hodgson wanting his players fully focused on the competition, not the transfer speculation swirling around.
It seems unlikely that there’ll be any official or concrete news on Vardy’s future while the tournament is ongoing, but that won’t stop the stories from emerging. We’re not entirely convinced that there is all that much truth behind this particular story, but we probably won’t find out for sure until after the Euros – or least after England are knocked out.

It seems questionable that after delaying the decision and not making any kind of announcement before he flew out for the Euros, that he’d suddenly decide to start leaking his plans and letting people know that he plans to stay. We don’t know what’s going on in his head though, so at the moment our attention should turn elsewhere.
