Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan is notoriously anti-Arsene Wenger, but the controversial journalist claims he’s been told “on very good authority” that the Frenchman has been offered a new three-year contract.
Morgan took to Twitter to reveal the news, and it was met with mixed responses from the fans.
I’ve been told on very good authority that Wenger’s been offered a new 3-yr contract by Arsenal.
If true, utterly outrageous. #afc

This is obviously far from confirmed, but Morgan certainly seems confident that it’s true. The fact that he’s staunchly anti-Wenger means he would obviously hate to see the 66-year-old sign a new deal, and would instead love to see him leave the club at the end of the season. That means he’s unlikely to go around talking up a new contract if he didn’t believe there was some truth in it, so it’s really something to keep an eye on.
It’s questionable whether Wenger really is the right man for the job – especially for another three years – but we really need to think about who will replace him. We’ve seen the impact of getting it wrong at Manchester United, and we need to make sure that doesn’t happen to us.
Most of the problems the fans seem to have with Wenger may actually stem from Stan Kroenke, who treats the club as much more of a business than a title winning football team. This may become more evident once Wenger leaves, as we could see a similar transfer policy under a new manager.

Arsenal transfer news
Alisher Usmanov recently discussed the importance of keeping Wenger at the club (via Sky Sports), so he clearly has the backing of at least some of the board. The manager has been perfect for the way Kroenke wants the club run, and unless they can find someone who shares his ideology he’d probably rather stick with Wenger.
