Alexis Sanchez wasn’t at his best this past season, but still naturally proved a key player for us. Chile may have lost against Argentina during their Copa America clash this week, but at least Alexis looked somewhere close to back to his best. He made a real fool out of Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi during the game, flicking the ball over his head and leaving him stumbling as the Arsenal star played in a teammate.

It was a string of five superb touches from the Chilean, who played a bit of head tennis before sliding the ball through to Eugenio Mena.

It wasn’t clear what the cause of Alexis’ poor form was last season, but whatever the reason there was definitely something going on with the former Barcelona star. He was missing shots he normally would have buried with no hesitation whatsoever, misplacing passes he really shouldn’t have, and generally appeared to be lacking confidence and looking a little sloppy on the ball at times.
Hopefully he gets a much needed confidence boost at the Copa America this summer while also getting at least a little bit of a rest before the new season starts. We badly need him back to his best in 2016/17, as it’s potentially shaping up to be an excellent season.

We’ll hopefully see another few signings through the door following the acquisition of Granit Xhaka, building a team more than capable of challenging for the league title.
