Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has been speaking to the club’s official website about this weekend’s match with Newcastle United, and the fact they have quite a few French players that will be well known to him. He also spoke about a New Year’s resolution and whether or not Saturday’s match will bring memories of his 2008 wonder goal against the Magpies flooding back.
The Gunners resident billionaire to be (via the Mirror) has been more in the news recently for his adventures off the pitch rather than on, after it leaked that he was a partner in an Italian bio-chemical company that claims to have found a way to produce levulinic acid on an industrial scale.
The Frenchman told The Guardian that this new breakthrough has the potential to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and could be worth as much as £20 billion.
Despite all the hoopla over the business, the 31-year-old has been called back into action for Arsenal following the injuries to Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla (via Arsenal.com). The veteran has been partnering Aaron Ramsey in midfield to provide cover for the injured pair, although Calum Chambers is looking to challenge him for the role.
Flamini was also in the headlines back in 2008, for what he says is one of the top goals of his career. He picked up the ball 30 yards out and delivered a rocket of a shot into the right-hand corner of the net, a shot no keeper in the world could have saved.
