David Moyes has to be one of the few that are yet to realise just how good Mesut Özil really is, and criticised the German international ahead of our clash with Aston Villa. The much maligned ex-Manchester United manager claimed that “the jury is out” on Özil, despite his performances this season being nothing short of outstanding.
He’s far and away the best playmaker in the Premier League at the moment, and has consistently outperformed every creative star in Europe this season (via The Evening Standard).
Moyes suggested he was still unsure of the quality Özil possessed, clearly suggesting the unemployed manager hasn’t been watching much Premier League football recently.
His comments are reminiscent of a number of other Premier League pundits, who shovel out the same tired tripe every single week, blindly repeating what they’ve heard from others in their field. It’s often been popular practice to use Özil as a scapegoat, blaming the No.10 for any and all poor performances by Arsenal. It’s been impossible to blame the former Real Madrid man for anything recently though, as he’s been absolutely sublime in a red and white (and gold or navy blue).
Anyone who has watched Özil this season knows the jury is anything but out on him, and Moyes was consequently slaughtered on Twitter for his comments:

David Moyes on Ozil: “I still think the jury’s out on him a bit”. Wonder why he’s unemployed.

Özil grabbed his 13th assist of the Premier League season against Aston Villa this past Sunday afternoon, providing Aaron Ramsey with an incredibly simple opportunity to make it 2-0.
The Welshman applied the finish to a superb counter-attack, but it was Özil’s unselfish play that left the goal gaping for the midfielder.

It’s hardly surprising that Moyes is unemployed with opinions like these, and we can see why his transfer business at Manchester United didn’t really work out. Clearly there were just too many Mesut Özil’s floating around, and not enough Marouane Fellaini’s
