Theo Walcott opened the scoring against Stoke City, latching onto a superb pass from the assist king himself, Mesut Özil.
We got off to an absolute flyer at the Emirates, and should have scored several times in the opening few minutes.
Alexis Sanchez hit the post twice – with Potters keeper Jack Butland making a fantastic save in the first instance – and Walcott really should have converted on a couple of occasions.
He had practically an open goal after Alexis slammed one against the woodwork, but off balance he skewed it wide.
The England international then should have done far better with a headed effort, but he nodded it over the bar when it seemed easier to score – Hector Bellerin’s pinpoint cross deserved more.
Walcott redeemed himself somewhat before the end of the half though, racing onto a perfect lobbed pass from Özil and slotting it underneath Jack Butland. 1-0.

Walcott wants to play as a striker, and insists that’s his best position. If he can keep scoring then he may get his wish, although Olivier Giroud will be waiting in the wings to pounce.

Hopefully the competition spurs both men on, and we get the best out of both players over the course of the season.
We were dominant in the first half, but only have a 1-0 lead heading into the second 45. We need to ensure we keep our tempo high and extend our lead.
