We haven’t had to work too hard to get the better of a Singapore select XI in our first pre-season clash, with Jack Wilshere helping us to a 2-0 lead in the first round of the Barclays Asia trophy.
Chuba Akpom opened the scoring in the first half, and it wasn’t until the hour mark that we doubled our lead. Mathieu Debuchy was taken down in the box, with an – in fairness – accidental tangle of legs seeing him go to ground.
The referee pointed to the spot, and Wilshere stepped up. It was a calm and composed finish, waiting for the keeper to dive one way before lashing it in the opposite corner.

It hasn’t been the most impressive Arsenal performance, and you’d expect us to do far better against a team the calibre of this Singapore XI side. The match is more about fitness than anything else however, and Arsene Wenger certainly didn’t name a full strength squad.
