It was a shocking start to the Capital One Cup game against Sheffield Wednesday, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain going off after a couple of minutes, and his replacement Theo Walcott following soon after. The injuries rocked us, and we looked close to giving up even when it was 0-0.
Things soon went from bad to worse, when Ross Wallace capitalised on some lazy defending by Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini to put the home side into the lead.
Just moments after taking the lead though, Wednesday were lucky to keep ten men on the pitch, with Sam Hutchinson recklessly lunging in on 19-year-old Alex Iwobi.
The referee somehow only gave a yellow card, despite the replay showing that Hutchinson had gone in with two feet, studs up, and looked to intentionally leave something on the young Nigerian.

We have so far conceded three against the Owls – with the player who should have been sent off Sam Hutchinson scoring their third – and there looks to be no way back. Most of the players just don’t seem to care about the result or the competition, but it would have been far easier to just forfeit rather than throwing the game away like this.

Hopefully the injuries aren’t too bad, and we can move on quickly from what is sure to be a really shocking performance.
